Front spindle worn where it contacts the bushings.

I have a lot of slop in my front spindles (861D) so I dropped the spindles to see about replacing the bushings. It is obvious that the spindle itself is worn where it rides in the bushings so I assume that it would be a wasted effort to replace the bushings. Is it practical to weld up the worn area and turn it down in a lathe? Does someone make a sleeve to fit over the spindle and ream out the bushings to a larger i.d.? What cure for this problem are you familiar with?

A machinist friend rebuilt the bearing surfaces on a $700.00 power steering shaft for my tractor by building it up with weld and turning it on a lathe. I would never have thought it possible because of the damage that had been done to it. Now it is good as new. I can't think of any reason your spindles can't be repaired that way. Good luck.

A machinist friend of my ground down a spindle for me and then fitted it with a frictioned on steel sleeve. Works good.

new spindles are available, and are not that expensive, compared to machine shop labor rates.
unless you have access to a lathe, or know someone who can do it for you cheap, new ones would be the way to go. thats what i did on my 860, they were almost wore in half .
if i'm not mistaken, the new spindles were something like $75 a piece.
