I know casting code EAE signifies the 134 cubic inch engine and EAF signifies the 172 cubic inch engine used in the 600&800 series tractors. I resently saw a 861 and a 681 that had no letters on the engine at all. How else can you tell the difference between them? Thanks, Bob

Scott, Thanks for the information. The tractor I'm looking at has a engine casting code of 310609 but has no letters in front of it like I have seen on other engines. Your info would make it a 57-59 but how can I tell if it is a 134 or a 172 cubic inch. It is a 861 and should have a 172 in it but I would like to make sure the engine is correct.
Thanks again for the help, Bob

Ford would have used a number like 310000 during the late 1957-1959 date range, then from 1960-1964 it would have been a format like C0NN6000A.
