Hello All

This next week if the weather holds I plan on embarking on some Pacaso work on my 4000. Ok enough on the artistic aproach I need some advice on painting my tractor. I have a late modle 4000su it has light surface rust in some places. My plan is to remove seat, fenders, alternator, starter grill, battery and tray, center section of the sheet metal and wheels. Then clean, degrease, wire brush, sand, prime and paint. Any sugestions? Am I on the right track?

BTW replacing fenders, grill and proof meter.

Thanks,

BigWill

Some suggestions: You should not prime or topcoat over bare or rusted metal. What you have to do over rusted metal is get a rust stabilizer from ACE or ....., then prime. On bare metal, you have to use a metal etcher first before priming, or a primer/etcher. Also, I would not take a chance and prime or topcoat over old paint, even if it is degreased and sanded, unless I put a sealer on first. Finally, before you topcoat, use Dupont Final Clean on all to-be-painted parts, and then wear rubber surgical gloves so's ya don't leave oil when you handle the parts. My $.02

Thanks for your .02 cents, may I have .02 more.

Rust stabilizer, Metal etcher, sealer--what types?

I want to do a good and lasting job, no time or money to do it wrong twice. Want the paint job to last another 29 years.

Thanks for all inputs/advice,

BigWill
