Hello All

Does anyone know a coating/treatment that can be bought to treat bare metal to prevent corrosion? I am about to start painting my tractor and don't want to paint the lug nuts, fender clamps and other metal items that are not painted at this time. However some of these items are statring to rust. Thought they could be wire brushed and treated but don't know what to use.

Thanks,

BigWill

There is a product called Boeshield that was developed by Boeing for use in the aircraft industry to prevent corrosion of bare metal. It's still used by the military. Comes in a regular spray can and is touted as being effective even in a saltwater enviroment. I used it for several years on a saltwater fishing boat with good results. It's a waxy kind of deal that penetrates the bare metal. I expect that once you spray it on your lug nuts you won't be painting them ever. It works on cast iron table saw tops, etc. Real easy to use, just spray it on. It leaves a good looking finish on bare metal. Probably would work good for you. I was given a can before it went on the open market. I think you can now buy it from hardware stores, E&B marine and similar stores.

Bill; What type of finish coat can affect the undercoats you should apply. How soon you plan on cover painting will also affect the choice of rust seal.

Not to chase you away but the "Paint and Body work" forum may provide more assistance than the Ford forum.

But do come back.

I will check the paint and body work form.
Incidentally I am looking for corrision protection for items like lug nuts, fender clamps jum nuts that hold switches and other items that originally were not painted. Don't want to paint them unless it is the last resort, because once you paint them then will have to keep painting them. This means lug nuts will have to be touched-up any time the wheel is removed.

Thanks,

BigWill
