I am looking for information on SOS transmission rebuilding, parts availability or possibly a rebuilt unit. I have a 1959 871 Diesel. The PTO does not work and I noticed the linkage is missing from the top of the transmission case to the cluth pack. I have no idea if the cluth pack was removed also. I would like to replace seals and bands while I have it down. I am located near Tacoma Washington.

Thanks

If the PTO is your only problem I'd ask these questions: Is the linkage missing or just fallen down into the case? Do you have the top cover off? If so you should be able to tell if there's linkage there that's retrievable and in usable condition.

On the other hand, if you want a reman, I have a direct drive unit out of a '63 4000 that would bolt right in there and be a better transmission in the long run than the original over-running clutch yout tractor originally had. I thought it was sold but the potential buyer has not confirmed that recently. Email me if interested.

Larry

Would you give me your E-MAIL address or phone number. I will be leaving tomorrow morning for a week and I am interested in your SOS. My wife will be checking my E-Mail while I am away.

Thanks
Bob

I have had limited luck with finding parts from the local CNH dealer but for seals and bearing my local bearing shop (Purvis) has been able to match them up. I have also had to have a local machinist make/rework some parts which got pricey real quick. There are several folks on this board that have very detailed information on SOS transmissions and have always provided accurate information. I also found that, for me, the Ford manuals are superior to the IT manuals. Lots of luck with your repairs.

You want to get a hold of Tony Jacobs - Post asking for his phone number ,and un-hide your e-mail address. You can't believe what he does with these old tractors. He's not a bit scared of a select o speed - How much do you want to spend?(hint, hint) Also, there are tractor salvage yards that sale these periodically you might try some of them - like Tanty Tractor
