Hello,

I am looking to buy my first tractor. I know how to use them but, Don't know much about the models. I have an ad in the WV Farm bulletin, and have gotten a call from a man that has a Ford 3600 model for sale. I cannot find any info on the specs of this tractor online, so seeking your advice.

It comes with couple year old brush hog, plow and disc attachement for $8k.I have not seen it but wnated to no more before i pursue, with what to look for, etc.

I have a 1979 Model 3600 and love it. I pull a 6 ft hog all the time, with a 6 ft box blade, hay spear, grader blade and it works great. I paid $ 7,000 for mine from a man i have none for years. Knew the condition, good tires, good brakes, no leaks.

Adam, I have a 1980 model 3600 diesel that is a great tractor.

The 3600 is rated 42 hp and shipping weight is 3665#. Mine and most of the ones I've seen have power steering, differential lock, 8 speed transmission, and live PTO. Mine handles a 6 ft bush hog and double 14" plow just fine.

If the one you're asking about has the above options, good tires, decent paint, reasonably low hours, (maybe under 3000)etc, then I would probably go look at it at the $8000 price. I wouldn't take that for mine and the equipment you listed.

Adam,

According to the 2003 Used Tractor Price Guide the 3600 was produced from '76 to '81, the recommended prices range from a low of $3140 (Gas powered '76 in poor condition) to a high $8170 ('81 Diesel in premium condition) so you should endeavor to find out what year the tractor was built as a $5000 price difference is considerable. The prices in the book are less the costs of any repairs required to make the tractor workable and premium condition is define as a tractor with no mechanical problems, it has straight sheet metal not needing a paint job, but not necessarily in show condition.

The accessories you list should cost at or under $1000 on the used implement market, around $500 if you really shopped around hard. Good luck.

Mike
