I purchased a 12 volt kit to convert my 1963 gas, 4 Cyl Ford 2000 system to 12 volt alternator. The wiring diagram shows a conection to an amp-meter which my 2000 does NOT have. Instead it is equiped with an "idiot lite" which glows if the generator does not produce a charge. Since i dont have the amp-meter, and the diagram that came with the kit doesn't show it, how would i wire in the "idiot lite"?
Thanks

gary, just converted my 800 to 12 volt,i agree with going with the ampmeter,it is much more accurate in assesing charging problems, and most likely easeir to wire, wire #1 post of alt.to acces.side of ingnition swicth,#2 post simply connects to bat. terminal on back of alt. wire bat. terminal to ampmeter positive side, out neg. side to pos. terminal of battery,i wired in on my pos. side of soinoid, hang on to the light in case you want to restore to org.someday .

Gary,

I recently converted my '64 4000 4 cyl. to 12 volt. I chucked the light in favor of a voltmeter. Much more accurate, and will help a TON in diagnosing charging problems in the future.

I mounted it where the fuel gauge goes, simply because mine didn't work, and I rarely needed it anyway if it did. Could be mounted elsewhere though.

If you really want the light, I think there is an article in the archives here that explains how to wire it up with some doides - I think.

Maybe Mr. Al English or Mr. Tony Jacobs will chime in here - they know MUCH more than I.

Good Luck,
Tommy D.

P.S. I hope you got the kit from Genesee Products. Sure does save a lot of time and efforts - not to mention significantly reduces the cussing.
