Hi guys, hopefully someone here can help me. I have a jubilee that has me puzzled. Back in the summer around late july I was using it to rake hay when it started to miss. I put in new plugs, wires, points, condensor, and rotor at that time and then the tractor ran ok. About two weeks ago it started to miss again. This time I pulled the plugs and put new ones in again and also put on the new distributor cap that came with the tune up kit i bought in july. The engine still had a miss so i checked which cylinders it is missing on. I found it missing on number 2 and 3 cylinders. I swapped a good plug from number 4 with what i perceived to be a bad plug from number three and had the same result, #3 still missed and number 4 still ran smooth. When the wire is pulled from 2 and 3 you can hear the spark jumping from the wire to the plug head. I believe that the ignition components are good and I'm not sure what to do next. A friend suggested I take a compression test and see if my head gasket is blown between the two cylinders. Does this sound like a possibility to anyone? The side of the engine is somewhat oilly from a leaking valvecover, is it possible that the plugs are not grounding through the head properly? Any help would be greatly appreciated as this tractor is used for blading snow in the winter and I 'd like to fix it before the snow flys. Thanks in advance.

You have mentioned all the possibilities I can think of except one: replace those two plug wires again and check that. That's an easy test.

A compression test would be a good idea it could be a head gasket or valve or just plan low compression on that cylinder. Hope this helps
