I have an oppurtunity to get an 800 series diesel,(not sure of the model designation, should be late 50's) for $1500-$2000,its got a healthy industrial type loader. It does need some work, power steering and hydraulic pump for the loader may be bad, I'm not sure about the 3 Pt hydraulics. The engine is misfiring as well. I know whats involved with the power steering, have all the literature ( including power steering supplement from ford which helps + know about aftermarket Pwr. St. avail.) I have known about this one for awhile, was told it used to run great, just sidelined due to power steering not working. Its a pretty clean unit, been with the same owner since new, not a select-o-speed, I forget the trans. and any other accessories, but if it gets traded in on a new one, I don't think the guy will bring it back, still seems much better than scrap. Tires are good all the way around. I don't think its a high hour unit like my 850 LPG with a wagner loader, overall good shape, I'm going to take a closer look. Im'not familiar with the diesel engine in this tractor, but if it was a good runner before it sat ( 2 years at the most ) Just wondering what else would rule htis out from being a good restoration candiate, sure would not get rid of my 850.

Billy - I have a 1961 861 Diesel, been in the family for 30 + years. It runs out fine and has a 5 speed manual trans and live PTO. Parts for the original power steering pump are hard to find, it may need to be sent out for a rebuild or new aftermarket. The tractor has 43 PTO HP and can pull just about anything. The engine is the same 172 CID "Red Tiger" as the gas version, just converted for diesel with pump and injectors. If you get the tractor, since there's only 1 fuel filter, make sure it's changed at least every 6 months.

Good Luck - let me know if you purchase the tractor. Getting a factory reprint of the operator and service manuals will help you.

Thanks Jim, of all people, my father is trying to steer me away from this one, he anticipates trading it in on a much needed new one for the horse farm chores and the like. I did however want to check here and see if anyone had recommendations about doing so. I grew up around these, my father even had a Ford dealership for many years, used to see the older ones come in quite a bit. I'm not sure why but, I'm going to have to convince him, take my money please! LOL ! I've had my eye on it for awhile, knowing its been sitting, waiting for my chance to pounce on it ! I'm thinking it should be a decent unit once repaired. I think the power steering dilemma can be over come, my 850 came with it, but when I bought it, it was not functioning, been using it that way for a year. Gonna have to fix it, but it works for now. Tough old tractors !

Well in good running shape its worth at least $5000 maybe more I have an 801 that I would be lost with out. So if you can get it for what you said I'd jump on it and do some work to it and if you don't want to keep it make a few bucks. Hope this helps
