dexta vs 3000?

I currently own a dexta but am looking at buying a 1970s Ford 3000. Initial info I'm getting is that people consider that tractor to be awful. Why? Seems like its a direct outgrowth of the Dexta which is a sweet tractor.

Thanks!

I disagree that the 3000 is awful. Sometimes people get down on a tractor because they have gotten hold of one that is worn out or abused, so maybe that's the case. In my opinion, the 3000/3600 Fords are great tractors. They produce around 40 PTO horsepower, weigh around 3600#, have good hydraulics, are well balanced, are simple to operate and maintain, hold their value well, are tough, etc. The only negative thing I can say is that the brakes are not all that great, but they are not the only ones of their size with that problem. Thank goodness for wet brakes.

Thanks for the input. I like the Dexta-well balanced, good traction etc and dimensionally ( by the specs) the 3000 is very similiar. I couldn't see the 3000 being completely wrong.

the 3000 is one of the most common tractors in world. It was a sales leader in that size and is still respected by even the other tractor manufactors. the john deere dealer took one on trade the other day,, and kept it for his own farm. There is no other tractor in that category that is better or longer lasting. The 3000 shares most of its parts with the 2000 and some with the 4000.. it was replace by the 3600 that had minor improvement and then the 3610 that still was very very much identical. the 3000 is slightly bigger and more efficient than the dextra and super dextra that it replace in hp, pulling and user comforts. The 3000 would carry a loader much better than the dextra as well.
the later model 3000 like the 70 model had improved hydralic flow componants, larger front end pivots and improved top shifter cover over the 65-68 model 3000's...
