1. Does anyone know the length and size of the 6 main hoses were the hoe and the tractor meet. I would like to have the hoses on hand before i change them out. one is leakning and the others are pretty worn and weathered..

2. Does anyone have any advise on changing out the bottom pivot bushing??? cut the old one out? use a jack to place the new one?

3. looking for the rod and teflon bushings for the control handles.. probably only a dealer part?

4. looking for the adaptors to move this back hoe over to my 730 loader tactor?? (probably just dreaming..

1970 model 753 backhoe on a 3500 gas tractor.
thanks.. Bill

Bill- I got a 1971 4500 TBL recently and it came with a service manual and parts manual for Series 750-753-755 backhoe. Service manual says the six hoses from control valve to boom are the same on all three, 5/8 I.D., two spiral wire one wire braid hoses.
The parts manual says they are 59" long.
I have two bad looking ones too but haven't got myself to tackle them yet. I read through the archives last week using "4500" as the search parameter. There was a thread somewhere in there about this procedure with some good tips.

Don't know if the control parts are still available or not. I went through mine just yesterday. The plastic bushings on the stabilizer levers were so tight I had to drive the rod out with some effort. I guess because they are used so little. They were so tight the valve had to be returned to neutral by hand. The other bushings were fine. By the time I cleaned up the rods and bushings and reassembled (both top and bottom ones had same problem) with light oil they worked just fine. The rod was a little worn in spots but I'm on a tight budget with this so decided I could live with the play for a few more years and didn't shop for the parts.

Fortunately my pivot bushings are only slightly worn so don't have tackle that, yet. Sounds like you have the right idea. If you end up cutting them I'd like to know what you used to cut them with. Jim L.

Hold the phone on that hose length Bill. I just went out and, though it is hard to get a really accurate measurement with a steel tape, those six hoses do seem to be all about the same length, though it is much closer to 48" than 59", so I don't know where they got that number. Might want to thread a piece of cord along one and measure it, or resign yourself to getting the new ones made after the old ones are out and eliminate all sizing guesswork, including inside diameter and fitting type. Good luck. Jim L.

I've got a 4500 with 755 hoe that I replaced those hoses on last spring for the second time since I bought it 17 years ago. The old hoses were too long, causing the excess length to loop out through the hole at the base of the boom by the boom pivot. The hoses tend to kink here, and that is where one finally failed. The old hoses were 59" long, so I had the new ones made shorter (1 @ 54", 1 @ 56" and 2 @ 58"), but I found they should be shorter still. The key measurement to prevent that looping and kinking is 17" to 18" from the swing post hose clamp to the boom end of the hose. I'm guessing that a length of 52" to 53" would be about right for them all, but that's only a guess. I'll find out for sure next time (hopefully 8 or 10 years away.) BTW, if you have to replace one hose, replace them all. That's not the easiest place to work.
