School system near me has one up for bids but the man in charge of the bids said it ran fine but when he tried to move it the other day that it would not move and was pumping oil out the side of the case any ideas what this might be. It has 4 pieces of equipment that goes with it that im interested in but know nothing about this tranny. Any ideas that will help me make up my mind sure would be a big help.

Thanks in advance Alan

If the oil is coming from the right side under your right leg it could be the "O" rings on the stack pipe between the pump and flow control. A fairly easy fix. If you have an engine mounted pump disregards this post.

I can't tell you much other then when they start haveing problems they cost big $$$ to fix, I've been told any where from $1500 to around $3000 depending on how bad off they are. I had a chance to get one cheap but let it go by because of that

Beg to differ. I have heard from experts at repair seminars and have found with my limited experience that usually the problems with the SOS are very minor and easily fixed, or just adjusted away.

Larry NCKS cn probbly diagnose it better than I can, but here goes - if it is pumping out of the case at the rear of the motor that would signify a blown front seal.

These trans are just a heavy duty automatic trans and can be diagnosed fairly easily. Getting the necessary replacement parts is the trick, however.

Outside chance is that it has been sitting for a while and got enough water into the case to cause a crack from freezing. There realy shouldn't be any fluid under pressure near the outside of the case to be able to be pumped out when running. If a band adjusting screw was backed completely off there should only be a chance of a splash of fluid escaping - other than a missing drain or missing side cover nothing normal should exhibit these symptoms.

Check to see where the leak really is coming from and post back.

Thanks! But I think you did a great job with it. I've never heard of this on an S.O.S. I too, would like to know where it's coming from.
