Help! Fuel injector issues

This afternoon, we were leaving a farm we have leased and saw the landowner trying to start his three cylinder Ford 335 diesel. I opened the bleed screw on the injector pump and to my surprise the fulid coming out was water. Long story short, after a new filter and purging all the lines, we had fuel at the bleed screw at the injection pump; however, no fuel was getiing to the injectors. Question: Does water in the pump automatically mean rebuild the pump?

No but its not good either, if its cold as in freezeing thats very bad and probaly a rebuild. crack all the lines at the injectors if not pull them and bleed it till theres no water, you may luck out and get it running again.

I'd say it depends upon the pump.....according to the Ford I & T manual. Says water will kill it.

But, I am an optimist and would also try the bleeding and attempt to restart before going into the pump.

If you have to, there is at least one great web site that fixes pumps very reasonably and do excellent work.

If you need them reply and I will get their web address.

My 3000 has 2 filters in the fuel input to insure that water can't get to the pump; but I have a distributor pump. I hear the inline is not so sensitive and only uses one input filter.

My 2c

Thanks, Mark, for the information. It is an in-line pump and has one filter.

I'm an optimist, too, but when I cracked one line I didn't get fuel or water. We live in south Texas, and the diesel eating fungus can work almost year round, putting water in the fuel.

If you wouldn't mind passing on that web address, I'd sure appreciate it.

Thanks again!
