SOS Conversion Kit

We have an 801 SOS Diesel tractor and the input shaft on the transmission is broke. We have been searching for replacement parts and everyone says to just put in a 4 or 5 speed transmission. There is a conversion kit for it but the closest one to us (we're in Oregon) will cost almost as much to ship it as the transmission costs. Does anyone on the west coast have a conversion kit to change this over to a manual transmission, preferrably with a double clutch system?

Thanks!

I saw an ad for an SOS for sale in the Mississippi Market Bulletin for $200. Might be an easy out even with shipping.

Greetings, You would be getting rid of the better trans if you converted. There is a very simple fix for a worn input shaft that involves taking a 3/4 impact socket reshaping the shaft to conform to the socket then welding the socket into the center of the the clutch. there are several sos running today with this fix. Hope this helps!

Last I checked, new input shafts were still available from your NH dealer for the single speed PTO S.O.S. in the 871. If you have the 881 it likely is not.

IMHO, if I were you, I'd fix the S.O.S. if at all possible. It'll be cheaper in the long run and i'd never be happy with a 5 spd in place of the S.O.S.

Search the archives here for input shaft- fixing an input shaft is relatively easy and can be done very cheaply or you can still get the parts new from CNH dealers for probably a little less than the price of a conversion. five speed conversions end up with many people not happy because they can't rototill and double trouble if you don't put in a five speed with the double clutch live PTO. Of course then when you lose a clutch its $400 to $500 for parts to repair and five speed parts are getting scarce and expensive.
