Someone posted a reply in the last day or two about replacing o-ring on fuel tank cutoff valve. I have replace the o-ring between valve and tank but want to do same for the petcock valve. I saw the pic about removing rivet to get to valve, but question is: how does one remove the rivet without causing damage? I want to reuse the rivet and hold it in with JB Weld. Thanks.

Hang the rivet. Just get it out of there and replace the O-ring, you can use just about anything for the rivet. I used a long pop rivet and it works fine. The rivets only job is to keep you from removing the stem and spilling gas all over. I tried to worry mine out with a knife and then got the bright idea to file two flat spots on the head of the rivet to give me something to grip and turn and ended up drilling it out, replacing O-ring and using a longer 1/8" pop rivet you can get at the local hardware.
