'55 Ford 860 w/ vane pump had been working fine all winter. Changed water pump, oil pan gasket, oil filter, plugs, wires etc, this weekend. Started 'er up and sounded great, except now the hydraulics aren't working. I've searched for info on bleeding vane pump but really can't find much. I want to cover all the bases before I endure the cost of changing to a piston pump. Any help would be great on bleeding (if necessary)or anything else that may have caused this. (Fluid isfull and not real bad).I plan on changing the fluid TOO< but it was working in the dead of winter fine. THanks in advance. bball

Brad, I have a 1955 850 with the vane pump, same problem. What I have to do is turn the bleeder valve (on the end towards the distributor) until the cap comes off, then I push my finger against the plunger inside (while the tractor is running) and usually after a minute or so of fussing with it it starts pushing the oil out and is fine for weeks after that. I also have a 1956 860 and it has the piston pump, a much better setup never have problems, if I ever run across a piston pump and manifold when I have an extra $400-$500 to buy it with I will.

Thanks Dave. I'll get to try all these options on Wednesday. I'm in the same boat w/ the $400-500. I'm also in NY, down by Greenwood. How about you?

Brad, do we work together in McK? 0032293. If so, pluck me out of directory services. Will talk.

If you were you'd know. I work with a Brad Ball and if you were he, it would surely be a coincidence i.e. small world. Thanks for the reply.

Mark

McK is the abbreviation for a town where I work.
