I am trying to figure out what year my 7710 Ford is. The serial number is located on the radiator access door lid. I think its an early model one since it has the older style cab, but the serial number I have doesn't make sense according to my book. The serial number is B528961. The book starts out with "C" serial numbers beginning in 1982. it then goes to "BB" serial numbers in 1988. Any help appreciated.

You have a pre 1987 build european market tractor built in Basildon, England. At that time all NA market tractors were built in Mich. After 1987 all models came from England. There were quite a few early English models shipped over here as used tractors. I never could quite figure out how someone could buy them used over there, pay the shipping across the Atlantic and make money selling them here. I have also seen a few 40 series that were built for the European market showing up around here as well.
Look on the tag for the unit number. All Fords used a common unit number code. The 1st digit is a number followed by a letter then 2 numbers and a last letter. Read as follows
1st digit= last number in the year built ex 9 could be 1979 for a 7700 or 1989 for late model 7710
2nd digit letter corisponding to the month built
3rd and 4th digit= number meaning the day of the month built
5th digit= letter, work shift the tractor was built on.
