My Uncle bought new a 8?? Ford Diesel tractor when I was a kid. It was two tone red and white or grey, 5 speed, wide front, power steering, and power spread wheels. Tractor has set for 20 plus years in a shed with a suspected broken crank and of course does not run. Sheet metal is fair to good. This tractor is now for sale and has been offered to me but must first establish a price. It would have some sentimental value but I do not have a clue to the actual value. I would appreciate any good advise or estimites to its value.
Thanks in advance
Mike

Hi Mike , First, the model and serial number are stamped on the transmission case right where the starter bolts in , get those and post them here so we see what you are looking at . Second, check the proofmeter see how many hours are on it let me know that also . Third, any holes in the block ? Does it turn over by hand or is it stuck tight ? How is the condition of the rest of the tractor ? Tires ? Sheetmetal and original decals ? Does it have Power Steering ? Where are you located ? I live in Mass. Thanks Tony Jacobs

ac-mike: You are lucky to have a chance at a family tractor even if it is broken. These Fords are very desirable for chores, for a project, or even for something to show off. Of course it will cost you more than you ever imagined and will reward you double in joy if you like these old tractors. A fair price for a tractor like this is $500 to $1,500. Mike-Iowa

I agree with Don. Talk to a mechanic and get a "rough" estimate on replacing a broken crank. Get a worst case scenario quote from him and deduct that amount from $4500. If the result is negative, then figure parts value only. You should be able to sell the sheetmetal if it's in good shape for fairly good $ as that stuff isn't being produced by the aftermarket restoration people other than the fenders. A good hood emblem will probably net you $50 all by itself. Lower section of the grille seems to be impossible to find. I'd say go buy a good running 801 with bad sheetmetal, transfer all the good sheetmetal from your Uncles tractor and tell the family it's the same tractor. Check George's post above for a good link to help you positively identify the year and model of the tractor.

I'm not an expert, but a WORKING 800/801 seems to bring about $3500 to $4500.

A dead one? You could be just taking out the trash, so don't offer too much more than you can get for the scrap, or for parting it out.
