Hello,
I just came across a 801 tractor in very good shape. It does not have live pto or power steering. Its runs good and has been rebuilt. He is asking $3600 for it. Is this a good price
thanks

If you are comfortable with the price it is always good. I have two 800's and would not trade either one. In my opinion if you are getting the tractor for $3600. and it needs some minor work (not a basket case) then it is still a fair price, and you get more bang for your buck with the 800's over the 8N although the n is a great tractor I had a 1952 myself, you can do a bit more with the extra horse power. My $.02

Thanks for the input. I went ahead and told the guy I would buy it. Just the trouble of having to find a trailer to haul it with. Does anyone know if I will be able to haul a 3400 pound tractor and a 16 foot trailer with a 4x4 V6?

Bill,
The weight of the tractor impacts the trailer and what it is rated for. I have an 850 with a loader and backhoe and the tires are loaded with CaCl. I figure that tractor comes in at nearly 8000 lbs. I bought an 18 foot, two axle, pipe flatbed tag along trailer which has 4 wheel electric brakes and is rated for 10,000 lb capacity. I haul it with a 2500HD diesel Chevy crewcab and it works very well. I still have to place wood blocks under the rear of the trailer when loading the tractor or it will lift the rear of the truck nearly off the ground. The tractor just fits and then I chain it in place on the trailer so it can't shift during transport. Your V-6 might do the job but I would make sure you have a trailer rated for the weight and that your trailer hitch is also rated for the weight. I would not use a ball attached to your bumper but one solidly bolted to the truck frame. Trailer brakes are also a nice feature! My 2 cents, Don

Which model? 841 (4 speed trans), 851 (5 speed trans)?

If all systems check out then the price is probably about right. It would be a great deal if it had live pto (861) and power steering at that price.

its a 851. In my area, 801's with power steering are too much. I agree, live PTO would be nice, but i can live without it. In my area, rebuild 8n's are going for over $4000.00. 801 has a 46 hp, 8n are 26. I think I am getting a really good deal.
