641 3 point hydraulics trouble

I discovered today that my three point lift has never really gone as high as it can. I've been using the tractor for bush hogging, grading, etc. with no complaints. But today I got a post hole digger and the only way I could get the lift arms high enough was to push them up. Then the hydraulics seemed to kick in and take over and they held there just fine (as long as the tractor was running, the lift arms have always drifted down when I shut the engine off). But... when I tried to lower the PHD nothing happened until the control lever was almost all the way down, and then the arms just dropped. Not the kind of control I'd like. And then of course, they didn't want to go back up. The hydraulic fluid level is good, and relatively new, changed 50 hours ago. No apparent leaks.
So I'm looking for help and/or suggestions on where to start to fix this. Sorry to be so long-winded and thanks in advance for any help.

Bob, I'm only guessing but it sounds like a worn cam follower pin. The pin is located inside the lift cover.
