Ford 860 front PTO will not align with axle pin to allow PTO shaft to be installed. I placed hydraulic jack under engine and lifted to relieve pressure off of axle pin. Pin has about a 1/8 slop where it goes into axle support bracket. Thought maybe something was missing. Pin looks threaded but could not identify any missing part using tractor manuals. Talked with ford vendors and they said pin is to screw into axle support. Only resolution I see is to place "L" shaped bar stock between top of pin and axle support braket and welding in place. It looks like it would work to take up slack and align PTO through pin. Any other ideas would be appreciated.

Surprized know one has followed up on this! The pin is worn and probably your support. Common problem. Does it have a loader on it? I'm working on my 821 now, similar problem.

Yes there is a front end loader. We primarily use the tractor for maintaining roads in 95 acres of woods but still occassionally like to use loader to move things therefore the need for front PTO. My partners still fill easiest and quickest thing to do is to tack weld bar stock between support and pin, eliminating need to remove front end again. Thanks.

Sure, you can cob a chunk of steel onto the thing and take up the slack...for now. But eventually it'll be right back where you are now...or worse. Then your only choice will be to replace the support, pin, and possibly the axle center section. There's a good chance that the bushing is already worn out and the pin may soon be wearing into the axle itself.

Loaders are very hard on the front end of these tractors. At some point you may begin experiencing the fan hitting the shroud because of the "sinking" front end.

It's your choice. I prefer to "do it right, do it once", but when I work on a tractor it's a customer's and I have to stand behind the work. That may influence my opinion. But it sounds like a "pay me now or...PAY me later" situation.

Just my two cents... Good Luck!

Thanks again. That's the way I felt do it right! BUT being over rode by partners. Last summer clutch (double) went out and I was given task of replacing. First attempt at being a mechanic. One thing led to another. Books, clutch, valve job, fuel shutoff, govenor gasgets and seals, thermostat. You get the picture. Anyway after ~ $1900 and loss of use last year, they want it back in operation now. Looks to me that Support, pin, bushing would be hard to come by and probably several hundred more $$.
