A local golf course owner has a Ford 3500 back hoe/front end loader that he is trying to remove the upper and lower pivot pins and haveing no success. These are the pins for right and left movement of the back hoe. The look very worn due to poor maintanence. Any tricks or special tools to get them out?

I'm assuming you didn't overlook a "keeper" device; snap ring, set screw, roll pin.

There is probably a ledge built up on them where one side of the "hinge" wobbled more than the other, hence more wear on that portion of the pin making a reduced diam on the ends. Seems to make sense as if the center was worn the most you would be able to drive the pin out one way or the other.

Only thing I can think of is to attempt to wiggle the end parts so that the thicker center part can find clearance (like it had when new). You may be able to determine which way you have to move by looking at the end of the pin. I would guess that the pinned part is not symmetrical about the pin and that should tell you which way to push it then wham with a brass hammer.

Thanks for the reply. My info is second hand but I'll make sure they receive your reply to me. A couple of guys have been working their tails off trying to get those pins out. Hopefully they aren't overlooking any "keeper" as you mentioned.
