Hello - I'm rebuilding the carburetor on my 1956 640 and I'm having problems with fuel system parts. I have ordered the sediment bowl assembly twice and have not been able to get the mail order company to send me what i believe is the correct assembly. What i have received is part number 311272 belonging to 1958 & up 601's. My existing sediment bowl assembly is a much shallower and wider with a screen inside. Mine might be a mismatched part by the previous owner. I beleive the correct part number is NCA9155D. Is the 311272 the part now being used as a replacement?

I'm also unable to find some replacement gaskets for the fuel bowl. The home made gaskets currently on the assembly are located under the head of the bolt and between the assembly and the carburetor where the two bolt together. Will i need these gaskets or will the assembly seal sufficiently without them? Since my gaskets are home made and i can't find these available, i wonder if they were added by the last owner and are uneeded?

Thanks!

Per my parts book.
Filter Assy. - Fuel
# 311272 is for 1958 and up
# NCA-9155-D is for 1955 to 1957

Do not really under stand what bolt you are talking about but if you mean the bolt that goes in top of filter assy then.....
Stem - Fuel filter valve; # 313382 for 1955 and up need 1
Gasket Fuel filter valve stem to body; # NCA-99180-B for 1955 and up need 2

This info comes from a ford parts book dated 1959

Thanks! I guess I'll need to take a trip to the Ford house. Mail order isn't always the answer to a 1.5 hour drive.

I just had similar problems when I rebuilt my 860. Go to www.----- --. They seem to be "with it". Give them your model...they'll get your stuff. You can look at their online listing in fuel parts, but best to give them a call if you are unsure.

All of the correct parts for this are readily available through any New Holland dealer. The sealing washers for the thru-bolt are required to properly seal the sediment bowl assembly to the carb.

I know that our store normally stocks each and every piece you need, if you're anywhere near north central Indiana...

Brad,
The homemade gaskets that you are referring to are actually fiber washers. They look similar to a flat washer. You should be able to get them, as a numbered part, from your New Holland dealer. Another alternative would be to inquire at a full line hardware store. Many hardware stores have an assortment of fiber and/or copper washers. Either one will work. If you go to a hardware store, be sure to take your hollow attaching bolt with you.

I understand that some later - in the thousand series - used a different shaped set up. Someone may have used a newer assembly on an older tractor. Take your parts with you to a dealer or buy a whole assembly.
