Ford 800 mod. 850 runs fine all day. Shut down overnight the carb float sticks closed. Engine cranks, runs bowl dry and won't restart until I disconnect fuel line and blow air into fuel inlet. What's going on here? How can I remedy? Rebuilt carb last year, reused old metal float. Just started doing this about a week ago.

I used to have the same problem with my 860. Now, before I shut the tractor off, I shut off the fuel valve under the tank and let the engine run for a minute or so before turning off the key. My theory is that the float will go down a little bit while the tractor is using fuel from the bowl, but won't sink to the bottom of the bowl where it could stick. The dropping float opens the valve so it doesn't stick shut. My theory anyway. As a practical matter, sometimes this doesn't work and the tractor will die soon after startup. I end up unscrewing the bolt at the bottom of the bowl and spraying carburator cleaner up into the carb and tapping the bowl with a screwdriver until fuel starts flowing again. I just can't bring myself to tackle a carb overhaul.

Try taping on the carb with a screw driver handle to see if it frees it without blowing air through, if so be sure there is no dirt or rust in the lines, if there is you may have to replace the needle valve.
