Dave,
Did you rebuild a vane pump this past winter for one of your 800's( BTW the pictures are great). I thought I read you did. If I'm mistaken please disregard. If you did, what did it cost, was it very difficult, would you do it again or go a different route? How long did it take? Any info. would be great. My vane pump is whipped, I'm running 80W90 in the hydraulics and it is really squirming to lift a 700# bush hog. (I went through the hydraulics a few weeks back) Thanks in advance as I'm weighing the options :) Brad

Brad, I did break down the vane pump this winter, when I got it apart there was all good news for me all I had to do was replace all of the o-rings, the impeller was good and there where no scratches or damage to the internals that would have been a real problem. The disassembly and cleaning was all very simple. I would not hesitate to open it up again. When you do break it down just be careful that you don't drop any of the little paddles that are on the impeller. The o-rings where all bought at my local New Holland dealer. Also check the front bearing and make sure it feels OK. Put back together and you should be fine. Good luck, Dave

Dave, What prompted your rebuild ? Was it really weak and having a hard time lifting weight Mine is really having a time lifting bush hog, plow, etc.
Do you think just replacing the O rings will help in my case?(Presuming all else is OK as was yours?) I know it's all speculation. I'm just curious as to how your pump was acting PRE rebuild? Thanks a lot. Brad

Brad, I changed the o-rings and all in the pump because I was loosing prime periodically and just to see if it was in the pump I re did it. The only problem I have now is when the 850 gets real hot the lift will not lift any weight but that I am almost positive is the ram piston rings because of the way the lift will drop when a heavy attatchment is on it.

Dave,
So I probably have bigger problems than just the rings? Mine loses prime after a couple weeks too. Thanks, Brad

Brad, mine still does it, I just reprime it and forget about it until the next time it does it. Eventually I will change over to the piston pump when I am ready to part with the cash.
