Ok. If you guys out there can't help me get my oil filter off my 3000 maybe you can help find where I hook up the sending wire on my engine to connect to the temp gage on my instrument panel. It does not show where the wire connects in the shop manual.

AJ, the sending unit wire should hook directly to the instrument cluster. Looking at the cluster from the back, that is out of the dash, there should be a spade plug on the far left in about the middle of the cluster housing on the temp gauge side. That's where the wire goes on a 72 3000 diesel. Should be the same for a gas.
On the other end there should be another spade plug screwed into the engine block just above the water pump. It's a straight run. Hope I understood your question right.

Well, the oil filter is readily apparent, if you cannot get it off otherwise, you will have to at least partially remove the loader. i would seriously consider some sort of 90 degree adapter or remote filter with hoses to the engine, as used on race cars and other odd and industrial applications, etc where filter interference is a problem.

When I get home I'll look in my NH manual for the temp probe location.

Another filter possibility is if you have a spin on, use the short version of the filter, If I recall its a FL300, used on alot of Chrysler products, same as a FL1A, just shorter. If you have a cannister, get a conversion kit and then use the shorty filter.

Thanks fellows for your help on the temp gage hook up. It is nice to have someone tell you what the book doesn't. Now my main problem is getting the oil cannister off my 3000, with the brace for my front loader in the way, I mean only an inch from the cannister, I can't back the cannister all the way out of the engine block. I am afraid I may have to use a sawsall to cut it out. Yes I have a spind-on kit, but I can't use it until I get the old cannister off.

If you think getting the filter off is a challenge, just wait till you go to remove the threaded adapter in the block to install the new one with the filter adapter (if you have an adapter like the one I bought for my '67 2000 gas) the huge (1 5/8" if I recall correctly) is very tight. I used a 3/4 drive rachet and extension and wound up using a floor jack and a block to push on the rachet handle againist the wait of the tractor, to break loose the adapter. I used an adapter I obtained from an old Ford tractor dealer who never went to New Holland. They deal in used stuff now and have lots of aftermarket stuff including this (I suspect) Chinese made spin on filter adapter. Don't know if it is very different from the NH adapter for this same model.
