forgive a stupid question - I'm researching the Ford 4000 as something I may be able to afford - I read in another post that the 3 cyl. diesel was a Perkins engine? If so, does it start as well as other Perkins engines in cold weather? Had a 4 cyl. perkins diesel that would start almost as well as a gas engine in cold weather.

thanks in advance,
Bob

Bob;, My 4000( 3cyl Diesel), is hard to start when it gets under 30 deg, and very hard to start under 20 deg. It sets in a un-heated building, If you have to use it in cold conditions, put a heater on it, there are several good ones on the market, and not a lot of money...NO problem then.. Luck to you..... No, it is not a Perkins engine. It is a Ford engine. Most of them started pretty decent in the cold weather.

I have a Ford 841-D that will start down to 0 F with no starting fluid/heaters/glow/plugs!

1)You need a DIESEL rated battery 900 amps!

Plan on around $80! The diesel's compression is 500 PSI!

2)You NEED heavy gauge battery wires.

3)Clean GOOD connections.

4)Good compression!

5)Good injectors!

6)Good injection pump that put's out 2,250 ps!

7)Good CLEAN fresh fuel and FILTER.

8)Clean air filter/bath!

9)No high pressure diesel fuel leaks!
