I'm interested in what people's experiences with Slime (the stuff you put in tires to seal punctures) has been. I bought some to put in the tires on my little lawn tractor, and now I've got a couple bottles left over that I was thinking about putting in the front tires on my 3000. The stuff I bought for the lawn tractor is for tubeless tires, though - will it work OK in a tubed tire, or should I get the Slime that's made specially for tubes?

I contacted SLiME's support people and here's the response I got:

*************************************************
Dear Bob,

Unfortunately, we do not recommend using either of our two SLiME formulations outside of their intended application.

Our inner tube formula, which is what you would need for your tractor tires, is a 100% fiber based formula, which is best suited to treat small punctures in thin-ply tubes. Our Super Duty sealant is a blend of fibers and rubber particles which treat large punctures in multi-ply tires. The Super Duty also contains rust and corrosion inhibitors as well as a pH buffer, all of which work to prevent damage to exposed rims.

Please note that the main drawback in using the Super Duty in your tubed tires is that it won't be nearly as effective at treating small punctures. It won't harm your tire/tube, but it may simply not work as well as. If you choose to install the sealant, as it's the one you have on hand, we cannot guarantee its efficacy.

Hope this information is helpful. Please let me know if you have any further questions.

Best regards, Corinne Harrison Customer Service Manager SLiME Tire Sealant *************************************************

So it looks like I'll be buying some of the stuff made especially for tubed tires. Oh well, what's money for if not for spending on old tractors? :-)

I got my stuff at TSC, and they had the grey stuff, which is for tube tires. It sits right next to the slime. I have it in my 8N, and also my Powermaster. My place is full of thorn trees. Man, I hate those trees, except when I burn them for firewood! The grey stuff works!
Good Luck!

I haven't used slime but I have used the version the local John Deere dealer sells. It's different looking and cost a little more but is every bit as nasty as slime. I've never had the first flat after using it. It won't work on slices. Rick is right though, when you take the tire off it's cussin' time.

Go ahead, just don't call me to change the tires when it is time.

Have used the stuff and it works very good. When I got my NAA, the front tires were full of thorns. Would having to fill or take to repair shop to have tubes patched very often. Put in front tire two years ago and have only had one flat front tire since. Put in more slime and re-inflated it. Rear tires on lawn tractor leaking out the sides from weather cracks. Put slime in them, laid on their sides, sealed leaks. Have used it in lawn trailers and wheel-barrows. Says not to use in any tire at highway speeds. I didn't know there was one for tube tires and another one for tube-less. Guess I luckly got the correct one for each. Don’t own stock in company..... .E. Ray
