I have a '66 3000 and I want to replace the bracket that holds the center link to the tractor, because the bracket is broken. How do I get the roll pin out that is holding that bracket to the tractor. I'm afraid to hit it to hard, because I could break the ears on the tranny that holds the bracket for the center link. It is about an 1 1/4 inches dia.. I can't move it even after oiling it for days and tapping on it with a hammer and punch.

We took a rear wheel off so we could get a good drift pin and a good swing with a good hammer to get ours out. Don't remember if we applided heat, but we did remove a rear wheel.

In many instances it takes an ample application of heat to help loosen the 30-plus years of rust.

I have exactly the same problem on my Ford 850. I have been advised by two long tractor mechanics. One said to heat the pin to a dull red then cool it completely with a garden hose which will make it shrink a bit. Then drift it out. The other said heat the tranny housing and drift it out while the housing is hot. I haven't done either yet! Still thinking it over.

Trying to do the same operation. Asked some shadetrees yesterday about heating the cast and they said it would be OK. Still nervous. Have you noticed the hole in the center of the casting above the pin? What is it for? I have been soaking the pin with blaster for a week and the hole is dry each time I go back.

jc, I don't know what the purpose of the hole is but I don't think it opens into anything. My parts manual shows the hole but makes no reference to what it is for. I think I'm going to try heating the casting with a "rosebud" tip on the torch to spread the flame and heat it quickly.
