Mike,

Maximum should be 225 psi, same as maximum transmission pressure. Pressure this high should be very rare and would occur only with cold oil, cold cooler, high egine speed. Commonly you should see 20 to 40 psi, same as lube pressure. Minimum is about 10 psi. I think the lube pressure sender turns the pressure warning lamp on at about 10 psi. The pressure drops below this and the lamp comes on while engaging the clutch or the power take off.

Cooler pressure should be nowhere near 225 PSI. There is a relief valve in there to prevent that.

Bern's right, the pressure should never be as high as 225 psi but theoretically it could be with cold oil and high engine rpm. >1965 Selectospeeds do not have a lube pressure regulating valve. At rated engine speed the transmission pump puts out 10 gallons per minute flow, after the clutches are fully pressurized (after shifting or clutching) most of this flow goes past a system regulating valve set at 205 psi, From there it flows through the cooler and lubrication circuit. If the cooler and lube circuit can't handle the flow, there is a final transmission relief valve set at 225 psi where oil would be dumped back into the housing. This is the highest pressure the cooler lines could ever be subjected to. The regulating and relief valves are located in the transmission control valve (at the bottom end of the shifter cable). Maybe Bern is thinking of the 58 to 64 Selectospeeds which had a lube pressure regulating valve set at 43 psi (also located in the transmission control valve).
