Many wartime tractors were sold with steel wheels because rubber was in short supply and needed by the military. The 2Ns were very easy to convert to rubber tires, so most of them were changed after the war.

Bill,
You see the rear steel wheels for the 2N on Ebay from time to time. It seems the last time I saw a set there no one met the $250. minimum bid so they didn't sell.
The ones you want to find are the front steel wheels for an N. They're much harder to find and worth a lot more $.

I don't know a lot about the 2N yet but yours may have been produced for the military. They used the steel wheels. You may be able to learn more from searching the photo files for military 2N or steel wheels. I know I've seen posts not too long ago from people looking for the steel wheels. Try posting over on the N board those guys know EVERYTHING about the N tractors. Hope to help. Eric
