Ford 3400 - hard to shift

Have had '75 Ford 3400 for a few months.
It is hard to get out of gear and sometimes grinds when I shift. Seems that I need to throttle down and wait for the tranny to wind down before I shift. If at high throttle I can not shift without grinding.

I took some advice from reading the forum and sprayed a few cans of brake cleaner thru the timing hole cover in hopes of freeing up a possible sticking clutch. Did not seem to help much.

Ideas?

Thanks,
Bill Texas

If you split thr tractor for a clutch, be sure to replace the pilot bearing.

The clutch disc is probably taking on oil; likely from a leaking transmission input shaft seal gone south. You will need to split the tractor, repair the leak & replace the clutch disc. Hopefully before you do transmission damage.
