I have a 55' 860 and just recently noticed something that I am not sure if it was always this way. When I have my lever in position control I can move the 3pt up and down pretty good. It can hold a 350lb grader blade up all night with no noticable settling. When I have the arms in any position, other to all the way up, with the tractor running, I can lift each arm up manual all the way to the top, but cant move tehm down. It seems to me that before I had to make sure they were positioned with the control lever.

My '55 850 is the same way. The 3ph doesn't have down pressure, therefore there is nothing preventing you from lifting the arm manually other than whatever weight might be attached to it. With no implement attached, all you're fighting is the weight of the arm itself. At least that's my theory. I know I can lift the arm manually with the engine running on my tractor.

Thanks for the confirm. When I first got it I thought I had to fight to get them up but I think I must have been dreaming. I noticed it when I was trying to back blade and the blade just floated up and over what I was trying to level. Probably just have to reverse the blade and toe it in abit so it digs.

Thanks again

I had the same problem when I was trying to "dig" with a scraper blade. I tried adding some weight to it, but didn't really have anyting heavy enough that would ride on top of the blade without falling off. Finally decided that I needed the right tool for the job and bought a 7" box blade that weighs about 600#. With the added weight plus the rippers the job got lots easier.
