Affordable Air Tube/Fuel Line?

I was just reading the air tube question by Ian in Tennessee below. It reminded me of a question of my own. Why do these tractors use the oil bath anyway? The air filter on my car lasts for several thousand miles. Does anyone make a paper filter replacement? Is there some reason that this would be inferior? Just wanted to find out the concensus on this. Love the board.

in a dirty field, you could and would ruin a paper filter quickly and often.. oil bath filters will handle lots of dirt and not need servicing for years.. some farmers where a long ways from parts and service..

Remember, these tractors date back to the post WW II era into the early 1950's. Many cars of that era used oil bath airfilters (I had a '54 Olds V-8 that used an oil bath). The paper filters didn't become practical/popular until the later '50's.
