I have a 1970, 4000 ford with the 3 cylinder gas engine. It was locked up when I bought it. It had spun the back rod bearing. I used emery cloth on the crank and it cleaned up and looked good, so I just put a new rod bearing in and it ran good for a few hours and started making a little noise again. I pulled the pan back off and the back rod bearing was getting worn, so I put in a .010 oversize bearing in and it did the same thing. Does anyone know of a way to fix this without tearing the tractor clear down and turning the crank? Thanks.

First you need to determine what size or how worn the crank is. This is done by using a mic. Since the crank is in the tractor you could use some plastic gauge. This will tell you if the crank is worn to small to use standard size bearings. If that is so (and I got that funny fealing) you will need to remove crank and have it turned under sized to allow for the proper clearance.
You can NOT just install over sized bearings and guess at it. A crank has VERY SMALL allouances it will tolirate.
