when was the 2000 manufactured. Does it have a good reputation? Was there a 1700 model?

There are 2000"s and then there are 2000"s. Ford had a major reorginazation in their world-wide tractor divisions in late 1961- early "62. The first tractors designated "2000" were the same as the 600 series ag tractors, same 4 cyl engine, hydraulics, etc. Although mine never had a Tach/proofmeter. Just solid sheet metal where the tach would have been. They were called the "2000 Industrial" and they had a nice stylish decal along each side of the hood to say so. This was in mid 1962. Shortly after, Ford also renumbered the ag tractors from the "hundred series" to the thousand series. The "4000"s" were the same as the old 800 series. Their big new tractor was the 6000, so they renumbered everything else. For 1965 the Ford line got a major redesign and this is when the 3 cylinder 2000 and 4000"s appear (the "modern 2000"s"). So, you"ve got the older 4 cylinder 2000"s and the modern 3 cylinder 2000"s. Which one were you talking about?

This is the same thing my posts are doing. The conversion from input text to formatted for posting doesn't recognize the shift key for appostrophies and parenthesis. It shifts both regardless of whether or not you hit the shift key.

Old farmboy Jim is having the same problem I have been having so it must not be my computer.

Just started a couple of days ago when you were tweaking the slow posting (double posting) problem.
Thanks,

txblu (Mark)

Early '60's to mid '70's. It's an excellent 30hp tractor. The 1700 model is one of Ford's Japanese compacts with a Shibaura engine, and was made from 1979 to 1983. I will say that I had a 4wd 1700 for a couple of weeks and it was a solid little tractor. Handled a 5' mower like a charm too. I had bought it to resell, because it was such a great buy, but I think I would buy one to keep if I ever came across another nice one like that.
