Jerry,Bern is correct, remove all 4 bolts to remove pump from engine block. No need to remove gear plug unless you want to remove cam from engine.Pump drive gear meshes with gear on camshaft.Sorry i was'nt more help on the first post. Its been awhile since i been on a 3 cylinder tractor so i had to go out to the shop and find the manual on the 2000 and 3000 tractors.Got caught by a couple of buddies wanting to look at my just finished 861.Hard to get away from them and all the tractor talk.Later.

Jerry,If i'm not missing anything on the description of your tractor you should remove 2 bolts on the front of the pump housing and the bolts that retain the oil supply and return tubes and lift the pump off.Later.

Thanks 'Old Ford Mechanic'.

However the pump on my tractor is bolted with three bolts to the left side rear of the engine block. I have tried removing the bolts and lifting the pump but it will not come loose. I know that it is driven somehow by the camshaft and suspect that there is a gear and maybe chain that must be removed from the end of the shaft. There is a cover on the back of the engine that looks like a very large freeze plug about five inches in width that covers this area. It is glued in and I am not sure how to remove or I would explore.

4 bolts!!! in reply to Jerry L of Alabama, 09-04-2004 18:52:31
There are 4 bolts that hold that pump to the block, not three! Remove all 4 and pry the pump off of the block. That's all there is to it.

The pump is driven by a gear on the cam. The pump should just lift off after the bolts are removed. The gear in the pump and the cam gear mesh when you set the pump down on the engine. It is not a freeze plug, it is an access hole for you to get to the gear on the cam that powers the hydraulic pump. It bolts on the end of the cam and there is a dowel pin in there as well. Get a block of wood and hammer and smack it a few times and it should break loose--ya might want to put a bolt in and tighten it a couple turns so that when it breaks loose it does not fall to the floor. If I remember right I used a gasket scraper to pry the big round thing out. Good Luck.
