4000 ford gaining oil

I have a 4000 ford with a 3 cyl perkins diesel
the problem is that the oil level in the crankcase
keeps rising, It dosen't smell like diesel
but rather trans grease, can anybody help?

Does it have power steering? If so, you could be losing the fluid into your crankcase.

yes it does have power steering, but it looks like
the pump is external It's hard to see because of the loader thats mounted on it but the powersteering pump is leaking on the out side to.
thanks i'll try looking there better..

It could still be fuel dilution. Gear lube chemistry has a lot of Sulfur. Diesel fuel also contains Sulfur( the "new" stuff contains less)and if you dilute the engine oil with diesel fuel from bad injectors, improper injection timing or a bad transfer pump( if this engine has an engine mounted pump) most of the fuel will evaporate off leaving more Sulfur for you to notice the smell. Just my 2 cents. AJ

Got to agree with AJ since your tractor should have no connection between trans and engine that would allow oil to migrate into the crankcase!

this tractor has the c.a.v. pump would i have to remove it to see if it is leaking internaly??

just bought a 4500 that had been sitting for over a year since running, and it was over full at the dip stick, I assume it is from leaking seal at injector pump. can this seal be replaced without total overhaul??.
