Not really a Ford tractor issue, but I'm betting some of you Ford guys can help. I have a unit with a flathead V-8 (8BA) engine that I want to install mechanichal temp gauges. The holes are 3/8 pipe thread. The gauges that I have been able to find are for 1/2 pipe thread. Anyone know if gauges are available with 3/8 thread and where to get them? Thanks

No problem. Find a parts guy who knows what he's doing and ask him to order a 3/8" NPT adapter for a standard temp gauge. Pretty much all of the gauges that you will buy will come with the 1/2" adapter, since that's the most popular size. However, there are many other sizes of adaptors that are available, and 3/8" is one of them.

Whatever you do, don't let him try to convince you that he can't get one, and then let him talk you into adapting the 1/2" adapter to 3/8 using pipe couplers and reducer bsuhings. It won't work! The bulb must be in moving water in order to be accurate.

Most auto suppliy stores will have the proper adapters for them, although it may be a problem since you need to go smaller, but that is where I would start.
