I bought a NAA, not running, and when I went to winch it onto the trailer the rear wheels drag. The trans won't shift into any gears. Depressing the clutch makes no difference altho the engine could be stuck. Do they ever get stuck in two gears? TIA

Thanks for the help. I got it loose. Somebody in archives said they pried a gear over with a big screwdriver so I took the top off and poked down thru the oil looking for anything that moved. Something did and the tractor rolled back into the hole I dragged it out of.

By the way, I dragged it about a foot incuding the loader and a heavy box blade on the back with a Ramsey 8000# winch.

The bottom of the shift lever is badly worn. The tractor was driven to where it sat. I figure a kid or somebody was playing with the lever and caused the problem.

Bernie, I bought a non-running 53 Jubilee back in June. The rear wheels were also locked down and would occasionally turn backwards when loading on to the rollback. It turned out that the clutch was stuck and there was some busted gears in the transmission.

Your problem is probably a stuck clutch although it could be a transmission problem. If there is a lot of moisture/water in the transmission housing the shifter mechinisms could be seized. HTH. Rick H. GA.

I'm betting it is stuck between two gears and you will have to replace 2ond(B9NN 7A381B and counter-shaft 2ond gear(B9NN7114A). This not a difficult job but you will have to remove the trans. You might want to check the gear shift mech. for wear because I believe that is where a lot of these problems originate.

I agree that is probably what he is going to find. These two gears get torn up when you get sudden stoppage of the tractor when running a rotary mower and are not running an overun coupler.
