Front Mount Pump for Ford Loader

I recently bought a Ford 3000 with frame for Ford 730 (or equiv) loader. I am debating whether to use the on-board hydraulics or go for the front pump.

After reading this forum - it seems that most recommended the front mounted pump - does anyone have experience using the on-board hydraulics??

If I go the front pump method - any suggestions on where to find a pump and also what size (gpm) is recommended. Going this route will mean that I will need to use the loader reservoir for hydraulic oil and I guess a filter, etc.

Obviously it would be much easier to just use a lift cover manifold on tractor but not sure how it may work.

Any help appreciated!!

That loader came with a 9 or 13 GPM.
I have a 735 loader and just rebuilt the pump ($170 for the kit) from Ford. The problem is that it keeps reliefing @ 2200 PSI and overheats the oil and tractor unless you are doing a lot of loading/ unloading.
I am considering plumbing mine into the Tractor hydro.
If I had known it would be so expensive I think you would do better with a 2 stage pump (barnes) from Northern Hydraulics, you would have to jig up a shaft coupling (McMaster Carr) and some how I would reccomend putting in an electric clutch to stop the pumnp when not needed.
Just a thought
Mike

Thanks Mike for your insight. After checking onto the cost, I am considering using the tractor hydraulics. I will not be using the loader much and hope its speed is OK. If not, I will only be out about $100 for a manifold - then I will pursue the front pump solution. I visited a neighbor with a similar loader - it was very fast, maybe a little too fast (jerky). Anyway - I"ll just have to see. It is my understanding that the Ford 3000 has a 5.3 GPM pump.

I have a massey 240 with a loader that is plumbed into the tractor hydraulics, It operates much slower than a independent pump but, has the same lifting capacity. I have a front pump and mounting frame with a remote filter housing for a Ford 3000 I acquired in buy out deal, let me know if you are interested. Dave
