Beginning in late 1968 the Ford 5000 diesel engine was changed from 233 cu.in to a 256 cu.in. I have one of the early 256 engines which caused us some waiting time for that tractors delivery. It was certainly worth the wait because that tractor has over 11,000 hrs. without going into the engine for anything! There's some torque specs. on the "Vintage Ford tractor resource" website.

Anyone know where to get a tachometer wire for this machine? The tacho is driven from the injector pump.

Or could I perhaps hook up an eletrical to the generator, as I have a Bosch generator and think it should have the "w" terminal on the back. Have to check. But all the electical tacho meters I have found have a large scale (up to 6000 rpm...)

Links to sites that has either of these things would be great.

Thanks Gary for the info. It should be great to have that info if I go the electical way, as it needs to be calibrated.....

depending on which tach you have.. if you have the older tach,, you will need a "right angle" device at the back of the injector pump drive that reverses the direction.. this will allow the early tach to work.. if you have the later tach.. after 81 or so.. then you do not need the "right angle" adaptor... i usually get these tractors in with the adaptor missing... hth.. bill

I have the tachometer that starts with the zero on the wrong side (Right side, and then the tacho needle moves to the left side when reving, I guess as I dont have it connected....)
