I have a 78 Ford 3600 tractor. I need to know what color the wires that go to the alternator. Mine is not charging, and it is a Lucas alternator, and the tractor was built in England. ANY help would be appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Bill, Lucas alternators:
Two large spade terminals at 3:00 Oclock-Output terminals-Heavy guage brown wire. Small spade terminal at 3:00 oclock- Warning lamp terminal-brown with yellowstripe wire. Samll Spade terminal at 5:00 Oclock- Battery temperature sensor - Brown with green stripe wire.

The battery temperature sense circuit and the warning lamp circuit must both work to switch on the internal voltage regulator and magnetize the alterntor rotor. You should be able to measure battery voltage at the alternator end of each of these leads with the key on, when the leads are disconnected from the alternator.
