I've converted my 8N to 12 volts minus the voltage regulator. Is the regulator required? I've ssen diagrams where the 12volt conversion removes the voltage regulator...

Well you always need a voltage regulator for the system to work BUT some alternators have the regulator in the alternator and some have them on the outside as a separate unit.
So we must ask WHICH one do you have????? ?????
Click on my name below and it will take you to a post that goes through this start to finish.

Ask the archives. You'll find mfgr names and model numbers as some of the "been there done that guys" have listed such. Some only have one wire but don't work as good at low rpm's as the Delco with the separate 2 wire control plug, which is only about $28 at Auto Zone.

that would be with a delco alt. they have a built in voltage regulator, if you want to you can use a ford alt. and put on a 12volt regulator. it"s up to you
