I'm getting ready to put some new bushings in the front end, they mike out bigger than the hole they need to go in. Is there a proper procedure for doing this?

Airman,

Depending on what the interference fit is, you can put the bushings in the freezer and the O.D. will decrease a couple thousanths or so. Check out how much the bushing O.D. drops and see if they'll go in without heating the bores.

I took new bushings (from NH dealer), spindle, and axle to a machine shop. $20

They are bigger because they are made to press in. They can be driven in with a proper driver or a puller made using a threaded rod. Note that the inside will be smaller when installed.

Thanks guys, what I"m going to do is have the lathe operator at work make me a fitting for the top and bottom, connected with a piece of 1/2 inch all thread, and pull them in.

Well I tried out the fittings I had made, and they worked great. I did have to remove some material to let the spindle slide in though. Top one wasn't bad (brass), but the bottom one was steel and took 4 slap wheels.
