How do you check the compression on a diesel? Do you need a special gauge that screws into the injector hole after the injector? Do you do it with the engine running while hot, or just turning it over? Thanks for any advice.

John answered why I don't have a gauge. What's your problem? Maybe we can help without your having to spend the $$$.

Yes you need a special gauge to check a diesel's compression.
A diesel has compression in the 400 to 600 psi range so a gas gauge will not work.
You then need the adapter to fit your injector hole or the glow plug hole per your type of engine.
Cost starts at about $125.00 and goes up with how many different adapters the set comes with.

Thanks, I think I will just take the tractor to a shop and tell them to check/clean the injectors and check the compression. That sounds easier and probably alot better than i could do!
