Do I just have bad luck, or is this a common
problem? I just bought my third Ford tractor with a 2 stage clutch that doe"s not want to disengage. The clutch pedal all the way down, pto continues to spin. What could possibly break in there to lock up the pto in 3 different tractors? Any thoughts appreciated. Rich

I have two 3000s and both have been good workers for me. You do know that the linkage from the clutch pedal to the transmission input for the clutch has to be in the second hole from the end of the clevis ( clutch pedal pushed higher ) for the two stage clutch to work. Some have been set to the lower pedal height without PTO to make driving easier. In some cases the PTO spins when disengauged due to oil friction.

"..... .due to oil friction." especially in this weather. Had an SOS that you could hardly stop the PTO in the winter time.

The ground speed release should be about half way down the clutch pedal travel and when fully released the pedal is high (uncomfortable as you said). I think my service manual shows a picture of it and it is near the top of the tranny housing.

Thinking.... Might take the linkage off all together (pull the steel pin out of the clevis at the release lever) and with a suitable wrench, move the release lever all the way back (to the rear) while someone is turning (attempting to turn) the PTO shaft, engine off for safety, tractor tranny in any gear but N.

If you are able to disengage the shaft, it answers your question that linkage is your only problem. Just a matter of getting the tweak right.
