I'm new to the Ford forum having spent most of my time with the N series forum.I own two 8ns. A friend has told me about an 84l that he is picking up to sell for a friend of his but he doesn't know much about them either. He said it is a gas model, good shape with serial #, he believes, off the left side bellhousing as follows: "84l" then below that a diamond followed by "78664" and another diamond. I'm guessing this is the serial # signifying cast iron sleeves but I dont know. Please help and give any other description, pictures or specs you may know. Meanwhile I will search the archives and see what I can find. If you guys are as great as the N board experts, you are great! thanks.

Bill: The 841 is an 8N with lots of hormones! It has the 172 gas or diesel overhead valve engine. Live hydraulics. Single stage clutch (841 does not have 2-stage, so no continuous running pto). It has almost 50 pto hp. Was built 1958-1961 and replaced by 4-cylinder 4000 series. Other tractors in this series include the 851 and 861 with 5-speed trans and 871 and 881 with Select-O-speed. This series has the most power and best hydraulics of the red and gray 4-cylinder Fords. More desirable if it has a Sherman over-under transmission to enhance the 4-speed. These tractors look somewhat like all of the other overhead valve red and grays, that is Jubilee through the 600, 800, 601, 801. Grill is unique to this model and the 901 series. I own a very good 841 gas and am making it better! Mike-Io
