861D- problem with add-on hydraulic kit ???

I have a '58 861D that had a Tisco add-on hydraulic kit installed when I bought it. It had a single spool valve and I changed it over to a double spool valve. The valve I used came from Surplus Center (Item 9-2594) and is described in their catalog as "New Cessna 31512. Two spool valve for operating two single acting cylinders. Spring center spool action. Open center."

I bought a Ford "one armed bandit" loader and I made a dump trailer using another single acting cylinder. That is why I wanted a two spool valve.

My problem is this: I have the loader mounted on the tractor and I have a hay spear mounted on the 3PH. When I lift a bale of hay the loader goes up also! I can raise the spear with no bale on it and the loader does nothing but when I pick up a bale of hay, up goes the loader.

Hydraulic pressure is obviously going where it shouldn't but where is the problem? Is it in the add-on plate under the seat or is it in the two spool valve? Any help will be appreciated.

I'm not familiar with the TISCO kit, but I think you need to get an open center valve with a power beyond outlet. Does the flow come from the manifold to the valve inlet and the valve return to the manifold? Was the valve you took off a double acting valve?

Joe,
I've unlocked my e-mail if you want to discuss this off of the forum. The Tisco add-on kit is nothing but an aluminum plate that bolts on top of the hydraulic cover under the front of the seat. It has an outlet and an inlet port. A hose connects the outlet side of the adapter plate to the inlet side of the 2 spool valve and another hose returns from the valve to the adapter plate. Then there are two hoses, one running from each of the spools to a quick disconnect.

Your email is still locked. Email me and I will Try to help. I may be a quirk of the valve you added. I made a manifold for my tractor and use a Cessna valve also. The only differance is mine is a power beyond. I still don't understand why it is reacting the way it is. I am a mechanical engineer and have designed lots of hydraulic systems, and valves that appear the same have differant characteristics.
