Lift arm height and box blade problem- 861

I bought a used box blade and when I went to hook it up to my 861 I found that the lift arms on the 3PH don't go down low enough to hook up the box blade. If I were to hook it up it wouldn't even touch the ground, forget about it digging in.

With my lift arms all the way down the centers of the ball sockets are 13" above the ground. The leveling screw on the left side is adjusted to maximum length. How close to the ground should the ball sockets be? Is there an internal adjustment on the lift cover to change the height?

Before you cut on your arms, you might want to price new ones, they are cheaper than you would believe and it would be nice to know the correct length so you can check. Give me a call; Ward Imp. 1-800-619-5629.

Never saw one that wouldn't go to the ground any lower than that, wondering if someone hasn't replaced the leveling links with those off an 8N or NAA; they are shorter.

Pernell: What is the center to center length .... in reply to Pernell, 01-23-2005 19:54:17
for the correct links? I was thinking that maybe these links are too short and I can lengthen them by cutting and welding in a piece of round bar stock.

First thing you should do is to put the little lever under the seat pointing down. This will put the lift in "draft" mode. The lift arms should go down all the way in draft mode and allow you to hook up the box blade.

If this allows the lift to go down like it should then the linkage inside the lift housing needs to be adjusted so that the position or height mode will go down all the way and come up in increments.

I sell a booklet with illustrations and a feeler gauge to use to get the correct measurements on the linkages and the kit includes a new cam follower pin/dowel that is usually worn out and needs to be replaced while in there to make adjustment better.

See the link below for more information on this and other Ford tractor innovations.
